The Nylon Sew Sew Shop was founded in 1970, by Hosey and Hazel Duggar after an invitation by Mrs. Duggar's sister to come to Birmingham and look at nylon fabric. On the return trip, they were talking and decided to step out on faith to open the first nylon lingerie shop in Tuscumbia, AL and make custom garment. The idea for the name came from Mr. Duggar as he thought of all the nylon products and the way they were made. With the help of wonderful employees and customers, Mrs. Duggar operated for 22 years before retiring and selling to Mrs. Claris Denton in 1992. Mrs. Denton continued the operation with the same employees and loyal customers for the next three years. After the birth of a grandchild in Indiana, her need to travel became overwhelming. For the love of world traveling and the need to see her grandchild, Mrs. Denton decided to sell the business. In January 1995, Mrs. Denton sold the business to one of her long-time customers who also had the knack and experience for sewing. Her name is Mrs. Fredia Rice. Along with support and help from her husband John, and daughters, Julie, Jana, and Jamie, the business soon outgrew the shop on 6th Street and the move to 110 South Main Street has been wonderful. From the humble beginnings of a thought, to the reality of opening day for Mr. and Mrs. Duggar, to Mrs. Claris Denton, and now to the Rice's, just look at where we are today -- the World Wide Web, and we owe it all to our loyal customers that are using a variety of our products.
